QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Can I select the child whom I would like to sponsor?

Yes, if the child has not already been selected by someone else. Present sponsors have priority and the opportunity to retain the sponsorship for the coming year. There will be two sponsors for each child, as of September 2002.

Does the entire amount of money I send in the sponsorship program go to the orphanage?

Yes, all funds received in the sponsorship program are sent directly to the orphanage for assistance with the needs of the child sponsored.

What if the child leaves the orphanage?

There are occasions that children will be returned to their family. In that case, the money will be transferred for designation to another child. Please keep in mind that funds are being sent to the orphanage with a designation. However, the money will be used for the overall needs.

Can I communicate directly with the child whom I sponsor?

Yes, you can send cards and letters. However, they do not speak or read English. Gifts are not encouraged as they will lead to jealousy, especially among the younger children. Sponsors will be given opportunities to send gifts, especially at Christmas and during the annual children’s ministry missions trip in June. Each quarter, the director of the orphanage will send a report and picture of the child to the YCE department. This will then be sent to the sponsor.

Will my church received world missions credit for my giving?

Yes, if the check is made payable to Church of God World Missions

Can I send money or packages directly to the orphanage?

Please DO NOT send any money or checks to the orphanage! Packages can be sent. However, it is very costly and you will run the risk of it being intercepted by customs. If that happens, they will be asked to pay duty in order to receive the package. That can amount to many dollars which they do not have.

What are some of the needs of the child whom I sponsor?

Basic needs include hygiene items, clothing, and shoes. We have most children’s sizes on file. When preparing items to send at Christmas or other occasions, you may want to consider toys, Spanish books, coloring books, crayons, music, sports equipment. Bedding, such as sheets, are also needed. Please do not send used items of any sort. NO GAMEBOYS. NO RADIOS OR CD PLAYERS WITH RADIOS.

Can I visit my child?

Yes, you can go with us on one of our missions trips to the orphanage. There, you will have the opportunity to visit, play, and worship together!

Can my child visit me?

Probably not! The legal requirements for taking a child out of the country are extreme and the directors prefer not to get involved in that kind of activity. It can open the doors for further investigation of their entire operation and ministry.

Can I give the sponsorship contribution for the entire year at one time?

Yes, you can make an annual payment if you so desire. Or, you can send payment quarterly, or semi-annually, as well as monthly. Please endeavor to send the payment by the fifth of each month so that the monies can be deposited promptly into the orphanage bank account.
