Halloween Alternative: Fall Family Festival
Each year, Kidsville Ministries sponsors a Fall Family Festival.
The festival is held on the Saturday closest to Halloween from 6-8pm
in our Family Life Center (gym).
Everyone in the church is invited and encouraged to bring guests.
Passersby are also invited in to participate. The admission is a
bag of candy but is not necessary…we never turn anyone away.
(We also request donations of candy prior to the event.)
We typically have door prizes for the adults and sometimes the children.
So, upon arrival, everyone “checks in” at the information
table. Everyone receives a ticket for the door prize.
In addition, we have plastic grocery bags available for children
(up to age 12) who do not have a bag to put candy in. Also, children
are given a sheet of paper with all of the games listed. Once they
play a game, it gets checked off. When a child has played every game,
they return to the information table for another game sheet. This
prevents one game from being played by everyone or one game from
not being played at all. The youth group is in charge of running
each game station.
There are things for the adults to do while their children are playing.
We typically have an icebreaker game for the adults that encourages
them to mingle and talk to those who they may not normally speak
with or do not know (visitors). The Cake Walk has also been popular.
We also have “Grandma Britt’s Store”. In the store
are basically yard sale type items, but we usually have some nice
things donated to sell as well. All proceeds go to Kidsville Ministries.
No church event would be complete without food. In the past we have
sold hot dogs, chips and drinks. However, last year, we gave out
a drink and snack ticket to everyone. They can be redeemed for a
free snack (Little Debbie or popcorn) and a drink.
